Preparation of Double Strength Chloroform Water B.P 1993

 Aim 

To prepare and submit 100 ml of Double strength Chloroform Water by simple solution method.

Requirement

Chloroform, Purified water, glass pipette, glass beaker and glass bottle( container).

Principle

Double strength chloroform water is prepared by simple solution method. Simply dissolving the chloroform and purified water with vigorous and constant stirring until to get uniform mixing.

Formulation Table

Quantities of ingredients calculated by using following formula, 

Quantity  = Quantity given in standard formula / Total quantity in standard formula × Required Quantity 

1. Chloroform = 5/ 1000  × 100 = 0.5 ml

Note : Use the above formula for prepare required quantity.

Procedure

1.Pipetteout the specified volume of chloroform and transfer into beaker.

2. Add purified water in sufficient quantity to make required volume with uniform mixing.

3.It was transfer into suitable container, to cap and label.

Uses

Double strength chloroform used as a additive in some pharmaceutical solutions and mixtures. E.g. Compound Sodium Chloride Mouth wash BPC. 

Used as a solvent for dissolving chemical ingredients.

Storage

Store in a air tight, light resistant container in a cool place.
